About Bridgnorth Rowing Club and Regattas

Bridgnorth Rowing Club, one of the oldest sporting organisations in Bridgnorth, occupies ‘The Maltings’ Building on the edge of Severn Park. The rowing club can trace its roots way back to 1868, also making it one of the oldest rowing clubs on the river Severn.

The Club currently has a diverse membership of around 80 ranging from an enthusiastic group of juniors through to our most senior member who is nearly 80. Throughout the summer and autumn our teams compete in regattas across the country.

The success of Club members is frequently published in the Bridgnorth Journal. We also have an active website and social media.

During 2017 the Club will see our crews competing at several regattas across the county. We will also host two regattas at Bridgnorth.

The first is our Fun Regatta on Saturday 22nd April 2017.

This is a rowing competition between teams of four non-rowers, racing over a distance of 500m on the River Severn in Bridgnorth.

The event is a great opportunity for friends, colleagues or family to get together and enter a crew of men, women or a mix. We will teach them all the basics of rowing with 3 x 1 hour coaching sessions undertaken before race day on Saturday 22nd April. All boats, equipment, and coaching will be provided – all they need to bring is enthusiasm!

Each crew will be guaranteed a minimum of 2 races on race day – more if they win!

Our main Club Regatta on Saturday 10th June 2017

This event will attract upwards of 200 crews from both local clubs on the Severn, and also Clubs from around the country, such as Northwich, Bristol, Gloucester and Hereford.

The day comprises of over 250 races for the duration of the day, with races held every 2 minutes over the 500 metre course that stretches along the length of the town’s Severn Park, finishing outside Bridgnorth Rowing Club itself.

The events are a showcase for supporters and members of the public to enjoy watching; the races include rowers of all ages, from the many junior crews the club attracts, right through to veterans.

Crews of all experiences also compete, from primary (in their first 6 months of rowing) to senior. Crews will also race in a wide range of boats from singles, doubles, fours and even eights.
